Workshops & Information Sessions

As an employee of the University, there are several resources that the University and Plan provides for new and current employees.  Pension plans are complex and may not be easy to understand, which is why the Plan provides the following information sessions and workshops to help you understand pension plans, the Staff Pension Plan, and how they might help you with your financial and retirement planning.

SPP 101 Information Sessions

These information sessions are available to new employees or recently enrolled members who wish to learn more about the Staff Pension Plan. The presentation provides a brief overview of the topics below, and there will be plenty of time to ask questions.

Pension FormulaHow is my monthly pension determined at retirement?

Members who have been in the Plan for a while are encouraged to register for one of the SPP MOST courses below, which cover the above topics in greater detail.

The Pension Administration Office works with UBC’s Organizational Development and Learning (ODL) to provide MOST workshops on the Staff Pension Plan for UBC employees.  The workshops taking place in 2012 are listed below.

Workshop:

Understanding your Staff Pension Plan (under age 50)
This workshop is designed for current members under age 50.  If you are already a member, this indepth workshop will answer any questions you may have about your pension benefits.

Workshop:

Understanding your Staff Pension Plan (age 50 and older)
This workshop is designed for active or deferred members who are age 50 or older, and are approaching retirement.  The focus of this indepth workshop will be on your pension benefits at retirement.  If you do not have a good understanding of what your pension will be at your retirement you should attend this workshop.

Workshop:

Understanding the UBC Staff Pension Plan
The morning workshop is designed for both potential and current members of the UBC Staff Pension Plan. If you are already a member, regardless of age, this workshop will help answer any questions you may have regarding your pension benefits and how they work. And if you are in that retirement planning phase of your life, will help you in understanding what options will be available to you once you do made that decision to retire. If you are not yet a member, the workshop will provide all the information you will need to make your decision.

One-on-one Retirement Information Sessions regarding your Staff Pension Plan benefits can be scheduled at any time with one of our senior administrators.  You are encouraged to bring your spouse so you both understand your options.  To book an appointment, please contact us through the Feedback page.

SPP geteducated Seminars

A representative from the Pension Administration Office will come to your department to provide members an opportunity to learn more about the Plan and ask pension-related questions in a group setting.  Specific topics can be covered if requested in advance.  For more information on these sessions, please contact us through the Feedback page.
