Leaving UBC?

If you are leaving UBC, we encourage you to contact the Pension Administration Office (PAO). We will arrange for you to receive either a termination or retirement package, whichever is applicable.

The information below is a review of your options and access to all the forms that are required for each termination/retirement option available. We have also included other information for members to consider when leaving UBC.

if you are age 55 or over

There are various tools available to help you in the retirement process, including guidance to complete the forms.

if you are under age 55

Once your employment ends with UBC, we will send you an information package explaining your options, detailing your current account balance, as well as an estimate of what your balance could be at age 65.

UBC Faculty Pension Plan Options
  1. Defer your decision (Leave Funds in the Plan)
  2. Withdraw Cash
  3. Receive UBC RRIF-Type Payments
External Options
  1. Transfer to Other Registered Plans - RRSP,RRIF or RPP

Once you have elected your option(s), read the Termination Forms page that explains the required forms and deadlines for processing your selected option(s).

  • Pension Workshops
    There are workshops available to help explain the termination and retirement options that are available.

  • Reminder regarding Address changes
    If you have funds in the Plan or are receiving a retirement benefit, we will be sending you Member correspondence regularly, so please ensure that your current address is on file with us. You can do so in writing, or by email.

  • Do you have funds in the Supplemental Arrangement?
    To learn about the plan, your options, and obtain any required forms - visit our Supplemental Arrangement page.

  • What if I become a Non-Resident?
    Should you become a non-resident of Canada, there may be additional procedures to follow.

  • What happens if I am re-hired at UBC?
    If you are re-hired at UBC into an eligible position, you may re-enroll in the Plan. For more information regarding eligibility please click here.
